Teatret Kimbri was founded in 1982 in collaboration with Ryszard Cieslak of the Grotowski Theatre Laboratory in Poland.

He directed the group for several years
and the result was experimental performances  with a powerful physical and sensuous expression.

The grand gestures have been minimalized; however, the spirit and presence are preserved in the performances which are characterized by poetry, magic and subtle humour.

Teatret Kimbri is inspired by the power and wisdom of the old story.

Our performances are played for both children and adults and contain a profundity that can be experienced from different angles.

We work in a field of tension between physical theater, animation art, dance, storytelling and character play and try to talk to all senses in a simple, direct and human language. What we want to say must appear as pure as possible.

We often look for unconventional venues and context in which the theater will get a new function.

The theater has received support from Teaterrådets teknikpulje (1998) and Aarhus Kommunes Kulturudviklingspulje (2001, 2004, 2007, 2009), Indenrigsministeriets aktivitetspulje (2001), 1. Maj Fonden (2001), Kirkeministeriet (2007), Kulturministeriet (2009), Bg/Bikubefonden (2009), Kulturhus Århus (2009), Drostfonden (2009) og Familien Hede Nielsens Fond (2009)
